Run Norwich 2016

Sunday August 7th saw 9 Great Yarmouth Road Runners compete in the 2nd Run Norwich event.  The 10k run through the city centre is surprisingly hilly and the hot conditions made it a very challenging race.  The spectators around the course were superb and the finish, outside City Hall, was a welcome site for all after the intense heat, even at 9.30 in the morning.

Delia Smith started the race and a number of local celebrities were involved in the build up.

Mark Evans was first home for the Road Runners easily beating the 40 minute mark with 39:16.  Mark Stone suffered from the heat but still managed to storm through in 45:49.  James Chaplain-Madden continued his return to form and was pleased to finish in 47:27.

Emma Crow was the first lady to finish for GYRR with 51:05 and Frankie Turner was not far behind finishing in 51:51.  Frankie also managed a quick toilet stop on the way thanks to a Priest at Norwich Cathedral who directed her to the nearest toilet.

Stuart Canwell ran in an attempt to recover from and ongoing hamstring problem.  Sadly after the hill at Rose Lane the hamstring problems returned and with 2.5 miles to go had to limp home in 53.57.

John Bound ran home next in 57:53 followed by Emma Dawson and Teresa Solomon in 1:04:41 and 1:04:43.

Everybody enjoyed the event and look forward to doing it all again next year.
