Nicola and Andrew Baker from Great Yarmouth Road Runners headed across the Atlantic at the end of October to take on the New York City Marathon on 1st November. Nicola and Andrew joined 50,000 other runners for the 1 mile uphill start on the Verrazano Bridge which takes runners from Staten Island to Brooklyn. After Brooklyn, the course took runners through Queens and into Manhattan via another long uphill section over the Queensborough Bridge. A short section in the Bronx led to the final undulating 5 miles to the finish along Fifth Avenue into Central Park, which was tough on tired legs. Nicola and Andrew were pleased with their times with both achieving personal bests. Nicola finished in 8111 position with a time of 3.47.37 which hopefully should give her a qualifying time for the London Marathon in 2017. Andrew finished in position 3827 overall with a time of 3.28.48.
