On weekend of 12th/13th Sept a group of Great Yarmouth Road Runners headed to Budapest to participate in the 30th Wizz Air Budapest Half Marathon. Eight runners completed the race on what was a flat scenic route mainly run along both sides of the River Danube, and over two of the stunning bridges that span it.
Leading the club home was Vicky Quantrill in a time of 1:38:50, followed by Gary Stanley in a respectable time of 1:45:55. Next home was Andreas Brodbeck in time of 1:49:24. 2nd lady home was Jessica Vincent in a new PB time of 1:53:45. Nicos Symeou ran 1:55:41. Also breaking the 2-hour barrier was Kerstin Langer in 1:59:19. Rounding out the field was Malcolm Holmes in 2:27:37, and Peter Holmes in 2:39:37 who both acquitted themselves very well in what were very warm conditions.
A great weekend was had by all with visits to the famous thermal baths to soothe those achy muscles, and taking in the gorgeous vistas of Buda castle overlooking the Danube.
