Hadleigh 5 and 10 mile

Lying beneath dark Autumnal Skies, Hadleigh in Suffolk was the setting for closely fought 5 and 10 Mile Road Races hosted by Hadleigh Hares Athletics Club.  Simon Bekker and Vicky Quantrill were in action for Great Yarmouth Road Runners. In conditions best described as less than favourable, Simon ran to a new personal best of 34:27 in the 5 mile race, finishing 8th overall and earning himself a bonus award of first in age category. Vicky, possibly experiencing the worse of the increasingly blustery conditions out on the 10 mile course and running in her first competitive race for several weeks, ran a creditable 1:15:07 to finish 3rd in age category.

Record GYRR  Members

Great Yarmouth Road Running Club is currently enjoying record membership numbers at a time when event statistics show that an increasing number of adults are turning their attention to running. Club Membership Secretary, Simon Bekker said ‘it has been very encouraging to see runners of all abilities who might otherwise of not have had the confidence to run with a group come forward and give us a try. The important thing with any activity is to be able to retain people’s interest and that is something which we are always aiming to do at GYRR'.
Great Yarmouth Road Runners currently meet for winter training on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at the Marina Centre. Details about what the Club has to offer can be found on the website www.gyrr.co.uk where there are also links to their Facebook & Twitter pages.
