Responding to Bungay Black Dog's kind invitation to GYRR to join them in a fun duathlon to celebrate the opening of their new Running Centre, two valiant teams went to take part. Yarmouth High Tide team consisted of Andy Peck, Karen Manning and Chuck Weigand. Yarmouth Low Tide was Peter Spandler, Malcolm Holmes and Dianne Crosby.
The idea was to compete as many laps of the course as possible within 2.5 hours. Two runners in each team ran a mile each and the cyclist rode 6 miles. The runners, Andy, Karen, Peter and Malcolm ran such fast mile laps that the cyclists, Chuck and Dianne, felt obliged to step on it and ride the fastest 6 mile laps they had ever ridden! And we all did that 4 times. The fact that many other teams completed five laps, were very professional triathletes, whereas our cyclists had to be shown by Karen how to rack their bikes, didn't matter to us one bit! We ended up with a respectable 5th place for High Tide and 9th place for Low Tide.
It was a lovely sociable day as there was plenty of time to chat to everyone while waiting for your lap, and a very good BBQ and cakes afterwards.
Well done Bungay Black Dog, and thanks for inviting us to join in.
