Broadland Half Marathon – 15 February 2015
Following an earlier rapid fill of spaces for this event, members of the Great Yarmouth Road Runners Club made the short trip to a gloriously sunny, if slightly breezy, South Walsham to compete in the second County Championship race of 2015.
Observers might be forgiven for thinking there’s very few hills in Norfolk but the route for this race certainly proves otherwise with the runners having to contend with some reasonably challenging climbs.
Leading the way home in the men’s event and overall was Norfolk Gazelle Club Member John Moore in a time of 1:21:19, whilst in the women’s event, Emma Patel of the North Norfolk Beach Runners Club took top honours in 1:26:02.
With a smile, or was it a grimace on their faces, each of the GYRR contingent raced their way to significantly new Personal Best times.
With a total of 329 runners completing full distance and with plenty of activities and stands to keep runners and spectators entertained, a big thank you should also go to the organisers, marshals and other helpers of Norwich Road Runners Club who made for an enjoyable, safe and well managed event.
Overall placing and times for GYRR:
69 Mark Stone 1:38:20 PB
169 Melissa Mitchell 1:54:13 PB
223 Jody Donaldson 2:01:35 PB
