Daffodil Dawdle Trail Marathon 31-3-19

Daffodil Dawdle Trail marathon 31-3-19

Daffodil Dawdle Trail Marathon 31-3-19.jpeg

As a training run, I decided to run the LDWA Daffodil Dawdle Trail Marathon as I had enjoyed the 51-mile Poppy line Ultra just a few weeks ago. The race started at 9 am for the runners with the walkers heading off an hour before from Stradbroke with a loop across fields and trails and little road.

The weather was good for Gary and I and with 3 checkpoints to check into and a couple of quick toilet stops we were very happy with our 4 42 clocking. Bang on target for our training plans for the Suffolk trail festival solo 24-hour endurance run and Angles Way 100 k. No bling here but we were well looked after with plenty of food at checkpoints although Gary and I kept going and lovely hot food at the end. A different sort of marathon but well worth a go if you fancy something a bit different.

Long Sutton 10k 17-3-19

Long Sutton 10k March 2019

Today I ran the Long Sutton Spring 10k. I knew I shouldn’t as I had hurt my Achilles at training on Tuesday night but being a stubborn runner I decided to tape my leg up and run .

I was on a really good time until I turned at the 5k mark where the wind was so strong which  then caused me to push harder.  This then cause the pain to travel up my leg to my calf . I was in so much pain I had to limp and walked back to the finish I finished in a time of 57.52 . Gutted with the time as I was on target to do a sub-50.

The Big Vitality Half Marathon London 10-3-19

Vitality HM 10-3-19 .jpg

Sunday 10th March was a wet and very windy Vitality Half Marathon. The sun did come out for a little while.  Strong gusts of wind were knocking runners off their feet and making us feel like we were going backwards but we carried on.

Fantastic runs from Gareth Davies with a time of 1:50:57 a new PB and Rachel Acamon-Carbonelli 2:01:19 also a new PB 👍🏼.  Great run for Elaine Haggarty 2:28:49, Anna Spackman 2:38:56 and Steph Deeks 2:23:40.

Crowd support was great given the conditions and really makes you want to do the London Marathon.

As the sun was setting over Benidorm, Spain 3000 runners set off to run the half marathon and 10k. The half marathon course was 2 laps around the new and old towns taking in Levante and Poniente beaches.

The support along the route was amazing - even those out on stag and hen do's! This was my first half marathon and I came in at a respectable 2.30:53. I've got the bug now so signed up for Bungay Half in April.

LDWA Winter Poppyline Ultra 17-2-19

Loving North Norfolk trails I decided to run the LDWA Winter Poppyline rather than Peddars Way which I've run twice before. With excellent weather for February the race was challenging but really enjoyable leaving Aylsham High School and going through 5 checkpoints at Itteringham, Holt, Sheringham, Southrepps and Felmingham and finally back to Aylsham.

Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park Half Marathon 10-2-19

Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park Half Marathon 10-2-19

Olympic HM 10-2-19.jpeg

Four GYRR members were enticed to London to be part of the inaugural Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park HM.  As the name suggests it was set in and around the Olympic Park and although there was no sign of Queen Elizabeth herself, 4000 plus runners made up for her absence.

The course map was very twisty-turny and in reality it turned out to be just that.  It was a course where you almost constantly saw other competitors running past or across a different section of the park.  The undulations were frequent, but it was manageable in terms of numbers of runners.  At no point did it feel over-crowded.  Similarly, the bag drop and general organisation was such that it felt like a relaxed race with everything close by.

All four GYRR members enjoyed it enough to say they would consider returning in the future and the medal was decent.

Freethorpe 10 miler 27-1-19

39 Great Yarmouth Road Runners (GYRR) braved the icy winds to tackle the undulating Freethorpe 10 miler.  Starting and finishing in the village of Freethorpe but also weaving through the villages of Reedham and Limpenhoe, the weather made this a particularly harsh run.  The rain held off and the sun peeped through as a welcome consolation. In a field of 638 runners GYRR clocked some impressive performances.

Thetford Trails 6-1-19

On the 6 January 2019, six GYRR took part in the Thetford Trails 10k. The weather was ideal for a trail race it was warm and dry.  The course wasn’t an easy course due to most of the race being on really stony roads through Thetford Forest .
