Wymondham 20 Mile Road Race
26th March 2017
Unbroken sunshine greeted the 284 runners for the 20 mile road race hosted by Wymondham Athletic Club. The race is a firm favourite in the calendar, especially for those athletes who are at the height of their spring marathon training. The race was also the 3rd of the ten races in the Leathes Prior Grand Prix event.
Nine GYRR members competed, many of them using it as a test to try out race pacing for their upcoming marathons. First home for the club was Andrew Dormer in 2.34. Andrew is in great shape ahead of his first marathon which takes place in Brighton in just two weeks’ time. The majority of the remaining GYRR club members are in training for the prestigious London Marathon which takes place on the 23rd April. Amongst them Penny Studley and Mark Stone who were pleased with their times of 2.39 and 2.42 respectively.
Club captains, Andrew and Nicola Baker ran together and finished in 2.52. This was a well-deserved PB for Nicola who has overcome injury to get to this stage of her training. Also earning a PB was Ian Tooley who knocked 3 minutes off his previous best. Kirstin Langer and Jessica Vincent were delighted to finish earning respectable positions; both ladies racing at this distance for the first time. Crossing the line, to see all the GYRR team members safely home, was experienced runner Nico Symeou. Very well done to the team and to Wymondham AC for organising such an enjoyable event.
Andrew Dormer 2.34.17 (PB), Penny Studley 2.39.36 (PB), Mark Stone 2.42, Ian Tooley 2.50.17 (PB), Nicola Baker 2.52.14. (PB), Andrew Baker 2.52.14, Jessica Vincent 2.58.50 (PB), kirstin Langer 2.59.28 and Nicos Symeou 3.14.56.
