The Brandon Fern Hoppers describe themselves as a small club putting on a large event. The event started and finished at High Lodge in Thetford Forest.
Whilst Mo Farah was busy winning his World Championship gold for 10 000 metres in London a small group of Great Yarmouth Road Runners (GYRR) took on a more unusual challenge.
The aptly named ‘Wibbly Wobbly Log Jog’ was advertised as an undulating 'fun' 5 mile trail through Thetford Forest. In reality it was a tricky trail with obstacles and hazards such as tree roots, fir cones, and sharp corners and parts only able to accommodate a single file of runners. Competitors ran in and out of 2 old bomb craters and along an amazingly scenic trail through the forest. There was a mass of creepy crawlies dining out on their mobile feeding stations.
The event was extremely well organized with marshaling on every corner shouting out encouragement and cheering the runners. Finishers received a stunning medal with engravings on both sides.
GYRR was represented by Lorraine Dawson, Anna Coulborn, Alison Bilyard and Fiona Williams. Lorraine finished 4th in her age group in a very respectable 44.55, Anna came in next in 49.23 and Fiona and Ali ran a very commendable race coming in at 55.16 and 55.24 respectively. The ladies had been wibbled and wobbled and were expert at log jogging on completion of a tricky undulating trail. Well done to team GYRR!
