The Twilight Road Races took place on the evening of Friday 18th August in Ipswich. Now in their 3rd year, the races run on closed roads have grown in popularity from 700 finishers in the first year to over 1250 finishers this year. They consist of the elite 5k race attracting some of the best runners in the country, and the mass participation 10k race.
This year's 5k race was won by Luke Caldwell of Dorking & Mole Valley AC in a time of 14:20. The 1st lady was Amelia Gorecka of Aldershot, Farnham & District in 15:40.
In the 10k race, Benjamin Carpendale won in 34:19. 1st lady was Megan Newton of West Suffolk AC in 36:22.
Five Great Yarmouth Road Runners made the trip over the county border to participate in the 10k. First home for the club in an impressive time of 39.50 was Simon Bekker just missing his PB by 1 second. All the more impressive considering he was suffering with a back issue. Next home was Phil Quantrill in40:25.
1st lady was the in-form Vicky Quantrill who smashed her PB by over 2 minutes in an outstanding time of 41:06 (8th lady; 1st in 40-44 age group). Lorraine Dawson was next finisher in 50:19 (3rd in her age group), her best performance in over a year. Not far behind was Anna Coulborn in a personal best time of 52:05.
