Sunday 24 February could be one of the warmest on record as 15 GYRR embarked the pretty and hilly countryside of Bury St Edmunds for the races named after Bert Tarpley, one of the earliest Bury St Edmunds Pacers members.
14 GYRR achieved some outstanding times in the 20 mile race with John Bone winning his age group with a time of 2.56.06!
First GYRR home was James Carass 2.41.26; followed by Mark Stone 2.42.10, Steven Baker 2.43.27, Ian Tooley 2.45.28, Lee Harvey 2.49.56, John Algar 2.51.42, Gary Pillar 2.54.13, John Bone 2.56.06.
First Lady for the club to cross the line was the wonderful Anna Coulborn 2.59.47, closely behind was Claire Baker 3.02.11, Kerstin Langer 3.10.14, Cathy Tooley 3.13.29, Ivan Lees 3.13.45 and Nicos Symeou 3.39.46.
Angela Grey was on the only GYRR to take on the Tarpley 10. Angela, a big fan of hills was grateful of the support of her fellow club members as they two races joined at mile 4 (and 14 for the 20). She was pleased with her first 10 mile race time of 1.50.19 and is thankful to her fellow teammates for helping her with her training leading up to the race.
Both races are perfect training runs for those preparing for half marathon and marathons.
Report by Angela Grey.
