It was a gloriously sunny day but temperatures were kept seasonally low.  With little wind it made for ideal racing conditions.  This was particularly welcomed by new members, Anna Spackman and Stephanie Deeks, who were completing their very first half marathons.  They ran together providing each other with support. The ladies trained for the recent Great Yarmouth 10k, so to make that step up to half marathon so quickly is very admirable and shows what is possible with hard work.

The course was held on the iconic racing track, but fortunately it was traffic-free today! The course was flat, with the exception of a steep bridge that the runners had to negotiate 3 times with 6 inclines to endure. After an enthusiastic warm up, led by the organisers – Inspire Races, the runners started their first of 3 laps.  Each lap, comprising of 7km, provided enough variety to maintain interest.  Music was pumping out of the loud speakers that could be heard on most sections of the course.  There was also a handful of bands/singers doing their best to keep motivation levels high.

Spectators were dotted around the course and some were in the grandstand, which the runners passed three times. The course turned back on itself in places, which was ideal for the runners to cheer on their club mates passing in the opposite direction.

As always GYRR gave a great account of themselves with no fewer than 3 personal bests (PB) recorded.  James Carass was delighted to lead the team home with a new PB of 1.30.16.  Matt Buckoke also got a PB, knocking over 3 minutes off his previous best. Completing the trio of PBs was Andrew Thomas, who managed to achieve his sub 1.45 target.
