Bekker’s Compendium of Races February to April 2018
Forever looking to combine running with travelling and the opportunity to explore differing landscapes and meet likeminded individuals Simon Bekker took part in three road race events as the sole GYRR representative between February and April 2018.
First up on 4th February was the Great Bentley Half Marathon in Essex which was a cracking race despite the bitter conditions and wow what a fantastic selection of post-race cakes served up by the villagers.
Next up on 11th March was the Surrey Half Marathon which took place in and around the London Commuter belt town of Woking. This was a large-scale organised event with a course filled with undulation and some of the best supporting crowds and volunteers of people out on the roads cheering the runners on.
Lastly on 15th April was the Vale of York 10 Miler at Rufforth in North Yorkshire by which time a semblance of Spring had arrived though still a bit of a chill in the air. Having completed in the 2016 Vale of York Half Marathon which is held elsewhere in the County, this was an opportunity for Simon to do the double as it were by competing in its Sister race. Finding the motivation from somewhere, Simon pushed on through the finish to record his best time at this distance and enjoy some post-race banter with the locals but sadly no cake.
