Lowestoft 5 Mile Dash 9th April 2017
A short excursion along the coast for the 7th staging of this annual event saw eleven members of the Great Yarmouth Road Runners Club, including two race debutants, in the familiar red, white and blue take part in the Lowestoft Promenade 5 Miler on Sunday 9 April.
Glorious sunshine and enough of an onshore breeze, to either help or hinder, (dependent on your viewpoint) greeted the runners on a day that brought out the day- trippers and beach-hut residents.
Preceding the 5 mile run there was a very closely contested children’s 1 kilometre run which proved to be very entertaining and good reward for those that took part. It was also reward indeed for the Road Runners Club contingent in the main event with age category wins for Simon Bekker, Lorrain Dawson and John Bone as well as several new personal best times being achieved.
Overall it was a fun morning and as well as thanking the officials, including our very own Pauline Leeves, a special mention must also go to our team mascots for the day - Noah and Darcy and injured dad Steven Baker - for their excellent encouragement and support out there on the course.
