Longdale Striders Endurance Relay 12-11-17
With the month of November seeing a little dip in the number of running fixtures, it was great to see 6 members of the club in attendance at an endurance relay organised by local running group, Longdale Striders.
This annual event is a fun run and this year was to celebrate the recovery of two Longdale Striders both of whom have had recent treatment for cancer. A donation from the entry fee is being donated to the ‘Big C’ appeal. It was held in Catton Park, Norwich. There were 64 teams in total comprising 255 runners, completing 577 laps between them!
Sunshine lured the team mates out but the rain clouds gathered and half way through everyone got soaking wet. It also made for an interesting challenge underfoot when the route, which was mainly off road, got quite slippery and muddy.
Thank goodness for the pre and post run cake. The refreshments were top class and in great supply.
GYRRs teamed up in pairs to run as many laps of the park in 3 hours. Each lap was 1.9 miles. Most pairs chose to run single laps alternating the runner after each lap to allow a recovery but it was completely up to each team how they organised it. Congratulations to Sean Jermy who paired with James Carass, Nathan Roberts who paired with Gemma Aylen and Vicky Quantrill who paired with Penny Studley.
Many local clubs were represented. The aim was to collectively run in excess of 1000 miles! This was achieved with 1096.3 miles in total!
At the start we all observed a minute’s silence for remembrance Sunday. Apart from the rain, biting winds and Vicky losing her poppy (twice) it was a very enjoyable event to be a part of; I’m sure we will return.
