Liverpool Rock n Roll Marathon and HM
20th May 2018
Royal wedding fever, FA Cup Final weekend, stunning weather and the Rock n’ Roll series visiting Liverpool made for a fantastic atmosphere in this vibrant city.
GYRR was represented in the both the full and half marathons.
With the half and full marathon options both starting and finishing in the beautiful Albert Dock area, it proved to be pretty course taking in several parks along the way, including the Sefton Park. The route was lined with bands, including a Beatles tribute band which gave the runners a real boost. The crowds were plentiful and the whole event had a feel-good vibe to it.
Many congratulations to the marathoners Mark Stone, Gemma Aylen and Rob Bailey. For Mark, who is in great shape now, running close to his personal best times over several distances, he was delighted with his time of 3 hours, 47.37. This knocked 5 minutes off his 2017 London Marathon time. Training partners Gemma and Rob took on their debut marathon side-by-side. On a hot day they were thrilled with their finishing time of 4.40.36 and 4,40.39. Where better than to run your first marathon Rob than your home town!
Inspired by Rob’s review and the praise by other GYRR members attending the 2017 event, Penny Studley and Paul Reeve ran the half marathon in 1.39.32 and 1.48.16 respectively and would love to return next year.
