It was a glorious day for Kings Forest 50k and half marathon trail races with Autumn well and truly here but with hot temperatures in the mix. The West Stow Country Park just outside Bury St Edmunds delivered on a beautiful trail course 2 laps of 13 miles for the 50 k runners with an added 5 mile loop and 1 lap for the half marathon runners. There was also a marathon.
9 30 am saw Terry Hubbard and Karen Peck set off on the 50 k. Terry with his 1st 50 k and choosing wisely at that as Positive Steps put on super trail events which are well supported by volunteers. Terry ran well finishing in 5 22 this being the 1st race of the Ultra Grand Slam. Next races are Peddar's Way and Norfolk 100 k. Karen ran steadily and finished strongly over the last few miles 5 52 but the hot weather stopped Karen and Terry from running desired times. Karen had run 5 30 on the course before and had achieved the Ultra Grand Slam in 2016 so knew what to expect.
Jane Thomas ran comfortably with her friend Sarah coming in with a 2 30 clocking and enjoying the stunning route and helping Sarah with her New York marathon training. The ladies had also ran Thetford park run beforehand so thoroughly enjoyed the day. A superb day had by all, now looking forward to 2019 challenges.
