Colchester 15 miler 30-9-18
On a beautiful, calm day, ten Great Yarmouth Road Runners travelled to Langham, near Colchester to compete in a new race at the unusual distance of 15 miles. As this distance is so rare it meant everyone achieved a PB, apart from Phil who had raced the distance previously. With only 97 competitors in the race it was a friendly, intimate event.
The race was originally scheduled for March, but the snowy weather forced it to be postponed.
The course consisted of two laps on very quiet country lanes. It was described as undulating and it certainly turned out to be the case with several challenging hills that had to be repeated on the 2nd lap.
This did not deter the in-form Andrew Dormer. First home for the club, Andrew finished in 1 hour 42 and 28 seconds earning himself a 3rd place in his age group. Phil Quantrill was close behind in 1.43.49. James Carass was using the race as a last-minute training run ahead of the Bournemouth Marathon but still finished in a respectable time of 1.52.57.
The next group of GYRR runners finishing in close succession were Andrew Thomas, Mark Stone, Penny Studley, Paul Reeve and Terry Hubbard with Anna Coulborn and Steph Deeks completing the team all safely home within 2 hours 38.
Trophy winners for team GYRR were Andrew Dormer and Penny Studley with 3rd places and Anna Coulborn who won her age group. Penny, Anna and Steph were also the 2nd ladies team home. Well done everyone.
