On Sunday 25th February 2018, 3 ladies from Great Yarmouth Road Runners took part in the 28th Annual Brighton Half Marathon. This is one of the first major half marathons in the running calendar and is one of the most popular races in the UK. 7811 runners started out in brilliant sunshine and blue skies with clear blue sea as a backdrop. The 1 degree centigrade temperature did not lessen the enjoyment of the race.
Adele Godbolt was running her third consecutive Brighton Half, while Anita Betts was taking part for the second time having debuted in 2017, with Naomi Hills running her first ever half marathon.
This year the course was slightly changed with the course starting as usual on Madeira Drive near the SeaLife Centre at the end of Brighton Pier before making a sharp 180 degree right turn up the hill to continue towards the village of Ovingdean. A chance to enjoy the sea views and the faster runners heading back in the opposite direction took the ladies towards the turn-around point before heading back down into the town, taking in the stunning Brighton Pavilion before heading out towards Hove. A turn around at 9.5miles at the end of Hove Lagoon takes you back along the Hove seafront past the colourful beach huts before finishing once again on Madeira Drive.
Naomi Hills had a spectacular first half marathon finishing in an amazing 2.15:52. Adele Godbolt narrowly missed beating her previous course best, finishing in 2.41.47 with Anita Betts coming in with a smile at 2.48:40.
A great weekend was had by all and this race is highly recommended by all three runners.
