5 members of the Great Yarmouth Road Runners were among 736 runners who braved the cold and blustery conditions to take part in the Adnams Southwold 10k. The weather alone was the first battle and with an uphill start leading straight onto cobbles, shingle and potholes; it was clear this was not going to be an easy race.
Three laps of this hilly course proved a challenge but a welcome ‘Beer’ station on the second lap seemed to lighten the mood!
It was a great atmosphere in ‘sunny’ Southwold with plenty of spectators and supporters cheering along the runners throughout the whole race. After coming to terms with unexpected terrain under foot, with a few subtle inclines thrown in, the runners were then faced with a long uphill to the finish line (a welcome sight!). All managed that final push to finish looking strong.
All five runners had great races bringing in some fantastic finishing times. First in for the road runners was Lorrain Dawson (52:39) followed by Tony Ludlum (58:20) Linda Drew (1:00:20) Fiona Williams (1:00:22) Angela Grey, representing her first club the Lowestoft Road Runners and second claim for GYRR (1:06:47).
Congratulations to all the runners for a superb effort!
