Mike Groves 10k 10-6-18
It was a very moving start to the Mike Groves 10k at Coltishall’s RAF base as race director, Paul Taylor, paid tribute to Sze-Ming Cheung who tragically lost his life in an RTA whilst out cycling last week. As a former member of the Coltishall Jaguars, he was clearly a well-loved and respected member of the sporting community. A minute’s applause was perfectly observed by the 488 competitors and the countless spectators and marshals.Read More

Following a roasting hot bank holiday weekend last weekend, it was with a sigh of relief that 25 Great Yarmouth Road Runners lined up at the start of the Dereham 10 mile race on Sunday 13th May 2018 in ideal cool and cloudy running conditions.
On a day were the majority of focus was elsewhere amongst the running community it was both rewarding and satisfying to support this local event organised by the Old Buckenham 2000 Trust with all profits going towards the roof re-thatching fund for All Saints Church in the village.Read More
Forever looking to combine running with travelling and the opportunity to explore differing landscapes and meet likeminded individuals Simon Bekker took part in three road race events as the sole GYRR representative between February and April 2018.
After completing the Viking 100 mile three weeks previous I knew I had to rest to be able to get around the county of Norfolk in one piece. My body needed a rest after a 24 hour run and get over the electrolyte depletion and exhaustion so apart from a parkrun I did no running for 3 weeks. So why run around Norfolk? I had run quite a few of the stages of the round Norfolk relay and always considered running the whole route so last year worked out the best way to do it and when. The Easter school holidays seemed perfect for me as then I could the second week as a rest week before heading back to work. Running between 27 and 31 miles a day would get me round in a week from Yarmouth to Yarmouth. I had worked out where I was going to stay and what I was taking and that wasn't much!
Wymondham A.C hosted the popular 20 mile road race in their 40th year as a club. It was a sell out with many people using it as a tester for upcoming spring marathons. It was also the 3rd race in the 2018 Grand Prix series.Read More
Viking 100 Mile Ultra Endurance Run 10-3-17
Those who grab their dreams and make them come true... They truly live life. I don't know who said it but it sums up how I feel after running the Viking 100 miles on Saturday. This was my 8th Ultra marathon and for the last few months I have been committed, determined and made many sacrifices to achieve this goal like many runners do. At the start line I knew I was in good shape physically but more importantly mentally. I knew I was capable of a sub 24 hour run but actually nearly doing it really hasn't sunk in yet. A few statistics before a few details about the race. My finishing time was 24 hours and 36 minutes. I was 6th lady and 23rd place overall out of 53. The 100 mile was the main race but there was also a 24 hour challenge to run as far as you an in 24 hours. There was a pacer challenge and a 6 hour challenge so never really sure who's done what because of the 16 lap course. The 100 milers also had the option to drop down to the 24 hour challenge during the race but that was never going to be an option or me.Read More
Eleven members of Great Yarmouth Road Runners (GYRR) took to the streets of Cambridge to compete in the popular annual Half Marathon. The recent snow put the race under threat leading up to race day but with a comparatively balmy temperature of around 6 degrees the conditions turned out to be ideal for the 7000 runners. Several club runners had opted to enter the more local Broadland Half Marathon which was cancelled.Read More

Perfect running conditions, met the runners on this cold February morning. Running in the Half Marathon GYRR’s Jane Thomas was accompanied by fellow friends Sarah Crockett and Hannah Dean (BBDRC). The sun was shining, and resulted in a fabulous run for all. The run started at Whitwell station, and followed the old Marriott's railway line, along the disused railway path, finishing at Aylsham town hall.Read More

Peddars Way 48 mile Ultra Marathon follows a mostly cross country route from Knettishall Heath near Thetford to Holme near Hunstanton. The route is very picturesque and undulating and quite open in places to the elements. I had run this in 2016 being my 2nd Ultra and really enjoyed it so because of my 100 miler in March and running round Norfolk thought this a good training run as Kevin and Positive Steps put on such a good event.Read More

GYRR’s Sean Jermy and Simon Bekker were two representatives in amongst upwards of 400 athletes competing across the age ranges at this year’s championships at Thetford. Whilst the weather was at times cold and breezy particularly on the more exposed sections thus requiring a good test of stamina from the athletes, the sun shone magnificently throughout and this was reflected by an excellent show of spectator support.Read More
