39 Great Yarmouth Road Runners (GYRR) braved the icy winds to tackle the undulating Freethorpe 10 miler. Starting and finishing in the village of Freethorpe but also weaving through the villages of Reedham and Limpenhoe, the weather made this a particularly harsh run. On the 6 January 2019, six GYRR took part in the Thetford Trails 10k. The weather was ideal for a trail race it was warm and dry. The course wasn’t an easy course due to most of the race being on really stony roads through Thetford Forest .

Wymondham New Year’s Day 10k 1-1-19
Recipe for a Happy New Year Great Yarmouth Road Runners style = 22 members turning out to race the Wymondham 10k on New Year’s Day, 9 cracking PBs, 1 age group award and countless smiles from all the GYRRs for taking part in a sport they all love. Well done to the team.
Elsewhere, other members enjoyed getting active for the first day of ‘Red January’. GYRR Mental Health ambassador, Fiona Williams, encouraged club mates to sign up to this worthy cause which is supporting Great Yarmouth and Waveney Mind, raising awareness of mental health and well-being.

Paul ran the marathon for the 2nd year. This time he achieved his PB of 3 hours 32 and 43 seconds. Penny ran the HM. What a beautiful place. The race comes highly recommended!

Congratulations on your new 10 mile PB Paul 1 hour 12 mins and 41 seconds. Rob Bailey also competed on a beautiful sunny day in Portsmouth.
A group of 19 including wives of 4 GYRRs and 2 husbands, took part in the Porto trip organised by Nicos and Ian Tooley. The aim was to either run the unusual distance of 15k or the Marathon and to all have a really good time socialising and enjoying the local culture including the port tasting and the local menu. A fantastic time was had by all!!Read More
Many congratulations to seasoned marathoner, Phil Quantrill. Phil ran the Abingdon Marathon in 3.03.57, comfortably securing his Good For Age qualification for the 2020 London Marathon (as per the current requirements).

St Edmunds Running Festival 28-10-18
Three ladies from GYRR travelled to Bury St Edmunds, to take part in the 10k race. It was a cold, wet day. The course was fairly flat around Bury. 315 runners took part.

It was a glorious day for Kings Forest 50k and half marathon trail races with Autumn well and truly here but with hot temperatures in the mix. The West Stow Country Park just outside Bury St Edmunds delivered on a beautiful trail course 2 laps of 13 miles for the 50 k runners with an added 5 mile loop and 1 lap for the half marathon runners. Norwich Road Runners organised the annual Broadland Half marathon. The event was due to be held in March but due to adverse weather conditions it was postponed. This proved to be a good choice because the 273 runners were met with ideal weather conditions.Read More
