East Harling 10K – Sunday 1st July 2018
A select group of GYRR travelled to East Harling to compete in the 8th annual 10k event. We have been enjoying an extended period of hot, sunny weather. Today’s race was one of the hottest to date. Thankfully it was only a 10k compared to the Outlaw Triathlon that was taking place at Holkham where three members were covering the distances of a half Ironman. Well done to Eirrin Thompson, Fran Elle and Emma Dawson.
Back in East Harling, it was a relatively low turn out from GYRR. It was the 7th of 11 Grand Prix races. It was another sell out event with all 400 places sold in advance of the day. Starting and finishing at the recreation ground it was a well organised race with a good feel to it. The course was on quiet country lanes with 2 miles off-road on sandy and woodland trails. The patches of shade were very welcome as were the two water stops with wet sponges. Although the final water stop was just before 9km which was a little close to the end of the race.
With the nature of the course and the incredibly hot weather, it was not a day for setting personal bests but the course was picturesque and all runners were offered a huge selection of free homemade cakes at the finish. Sean Jermy finished in an impressive 7th place overall. Marc Evans ran well considering he took part in the Holkham 10k, with Steph Deeks, less than 24 hours earlier.
Anna Coulborn was only just recovered from her recent trip to Australia with her marathon only 2 weeks earlier! She came 2nd in her age group even though it was nowhere near her personal best. The full results for GYRR are below:
Sean Jermy 00:37:50; Marc Evans 00:39:56; Penny Studley 00:47:16; Paul Reeve 00:50:17; Anna Coulborn 00:55:49; Stephanie Deeks 01:02:20; Naomi Hills 01:05:45; Anita Betts 01:21:15
