Great Yarmouth Road Runner’s 5-mile series Charity Donation June 2018
Great Yarmouth Road Runners (GYRR) hosted it's most successful 5-mile road race series this year with record numbers entering at least one of the three races. Each entrant generated a 50p donation to the chosen charity for GYRR, which was to support the local cause at the Sandra Chapman Centre.
Toni George, pictured below, passed on her thanks on behalf of the staff and patients of the unit situated at the James Paget Hospital in Gorleston, ‘We are so grateful that GYRR has chosen our unit to support as part of their 5-mile series.
The Sandra Chapman Centre provides local people with treatments such as chemotherapy and blood transfusions. The treatment, care and support given is provided by a team of Doctors and Nurses with a range of specialised skills. Giving treatments in the Sandra Chapman Centre allows patients to attend daily rather than being hospitalised.
Donations like yours are spent carefully on medical equipment, developments in our service and on improving the comfort of patients and relatives.
Thank you to every single person who ran and supported the 5-mile series and therefore supported our unit.’
This sentiment was echoed by first time race director, Jodie Lee, who was overwhelmed by the support for the series. Jodie went on to say, ‘I’m sure we all know someone who has needed to call on the services of this wonderful unit and we were very proud to choose this as our 2018 charity. We raised £876.50 in total. I’d like to thank all the runners and marshals for helping me to make the series the success it was. It is very rewarding to give something back to all involved in this amazing unit.’
Club chairman, Andrew Baker (pictured below) and the GYRR committee would like to thank Jodie for her superb organisation in her role as race director and are delighted that she has already agreed to lead the event again in 2019.
