The 401 Challenge

On Sunday 29th November GYRR had the honour of accompanying Ben Smith, the 401 Challenger on his marathon in Gorleston. We set off from a very breezy Gorleston clifftop at 9.30 and had our first stop at the Mardle cafe for tea (and cake for Ben). We followed a route through Lound and Somerleyton,

Then back to the seafront to drop off the half marathoners. We set off again in the direction of the Mardle Cafe for Ben’s refuelling, Where we were joined by some Lowestoft Road Runners. It was a bit wet and windy but that did not put off the runners, Dave and Lisa ran the whole marathon, (and Paul from Lowestoft RR) Then we rejoined Andrew, who ran most of the distance. We finished off with a 3 mile run on Gorleston clifftop where we were joined by Darren Honour. A huge thankyou to everyone who turned out and helped Ben. 90 marathons done, just 311 to go (in 311 days) Check out the the 401 Challenge Facebook page for Ben’s progress. The Club has made a donation to the 2 charities that Ben is supporting. If you would like to donate, here is the link:

Thanks everyone,
